Carers Voice

Carers Voice Ambassadors

We have a number of wonderful Carers Ambassadors within Carers Voice.

Carers Ambassadors have personal lived experience of caring and they recognise the value of Carers being involved in Services. They are members of Carers Voice Norfolk & Waveney and regularly contribute to the development and design of services used by Carers within health and social care. Their experience means they are linked in and familiar with services for Carers across the County.

The Carers Ambassadors listen to Carers and signpost, help identify “hidden Carers” (Carers who don’t necessarily recognise they are Carers and the support available to them), represent Carers at events and meetings and work with the Carers Voice team, informing them what is working well and what requires improvement.

I was a Carer for 10 years and became a Carers Ambassador in 2022. I wanted to continue to make a difference by ensuring that others had better experiences than I did. I also volunteer with organisations that support older people in Norfolk to live independently and well. We cover  everything from health and care             to access to basic services.

I have been a carer for more than 40 years. I have worked with Carers Voice Norfolk for many years and became a Carers Ambassador in  2022 working on many co-productions including the launch of the Carers Identity Passport. I also work closely with the Queen Elizabeth hospital on Carer matters and have recently been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Patient Panel.

I have been a Carers Voice member from the beginning and initiated the exploration of Carer Ambassadors. I have been involved in campaigns such as, Nothing About Us Without Us, that gained a National Local Campaigner Award and am involved heavily in working with Cancer Services Voluntary Organisations. I also have personal experience of Caring.

I have been an unpaid Carer for nearly 10 years for elderly family members. Having worked thoughout the UK, I returned to my home county and discovered great support and understanding from the Norfolk Carer organisations. I became a Carer Ambassador in 2023 and strive to use my experiences to publicise and support Carers throughout the County.
